I need to renew my 5 year old sons UK passport from Spain, I am told all applications from Spain must be done online.

If I have to send a digital photograph, how can that photograph be countersigned?

If you have a post shop near you use them, we went into the post shop in Villamartin this morning to renew my husbands passport Martin in the shop took the photo completed the online application and by the time we got home a few minutes later we had received an email from the passport office confirming receipt of the application. The admin cost €20 plus the cost of the passport worth every euro. No need for photo to be countersigned.

I believe a 5 year olds passport must be countersigned, due to change of appearance.

Please correct me if I am wrong?

This is taken from the official U.K. Government website https://www.gov.uk/get-a-child-passport/renew-a-child-passport

To renew your child’s passport you’ll need:

  • your child’s old passport
  • any valid passports from a different country your child might have
  • any court orders (for example that describe parental responsibility or residency arrangements)

You’ll also need either digital or printed photos of your child.

Ask someone to confirm your child’s identity

If your child is under 12, you’ll need to ask someone to confirm their identity after you’ve submitted the application.

Let the person know that they’ll receive an email from HM Passport Office telling them what to do. They’ll confirm your child’s identity online - they do not need to sign a printed photo.

Find out who can confirm your child’s identity and what they need to do.

Hope this clarifies what you need to do.
