Hello, I've just moved to Torrevieja from the UK (on an Irish passport) 2 weeks ago. I'm picking up my original NIE and copia simple documents from my lawyer this week. My next step is to register on the Padron. Does anybody know if I can manage this in English, with the aid of my trusty google translate app and my Spanish phrase book, or will I need to take a translator with me? If the latter, where do I find a translator and would anybody know approximately what they would cost please?

Thanks.

Basic Spanish is all you'll need. Make an appointment through the town hall site, pick your time and take in your papers, I.D, utility bill etc and they'll do the rest. 20 min maximum.

Never used a translation service, so can't advise on costs.

Thanks Wilbur. Even my basic Spanish leaves a lot to be desired, but I'll rehearse the key phrases before I go. (Determined to speak Spanish eventually, but it's not easy!! )

Unless you are resident, or applying to become so, you are not entitled to be on any padron.

Hi,

Translators where I live charge €20 for the first hour then €10 for each hour (or part of) after that. With anything to do with Spanish bureaucracy is money well spent.

A good Translator usually knows their way round all these systems.

Of course I'm resident, otherwise I wouldn't be bothering!

Thanks for the info Steve, it gives me an idea at least of likely costs.

As appointments are hard to come by I suggest you go to your nearest Locutorio and you can buy one for €3. Then on the day of your Appointment at the Padron Office which is the Census Office at 22 Calle Union Musical Torrevejense take along your Passport ,NIE and either a rental contract or House Deeds and a utility bill.

Here are details from a post which gives you the details of the appointments. Just go in and ask.

Hello Bee

Have you done this yourself,  or  do you know someone who has obtained an appt this way?

I wouldnt want to leave any personal details  around  in those Locutorios in Torrevieja, I have been in a couple of times with a Filipino  friend  but the people in there, & serving are usually non english speaking guys , doing all kinds of deals/transations etc but selling appts is not advertised anywhere.

Do you know one of these places that you could recommend to me & my friends to use... in the town centre please?

Cheers

I'm not in a hurry so I'll try to get an appt direct first. Thanks for the info though.
