Hi i realise this was some time ago but would like some clarity on the matter. Earlier you said:
"If you do not work in spain and are currently unemployed then you must have private health insurance and also must have 6,500€ in your bank account to show that you are self sufficient. You also need to show at least 600€ going into your bank account every month for the last 6 months"
My question is that if you are unemployed, how are you supposed to show 600pm going into your account?

If you can't prove that you have enough income to not be a financial burden on the state, then you won't be granted residencia.
Probably the best summary of the requirements that I've seen is on the Alicante Province website:
http://www.ciudadanosextranjeros.es/publicacion.php?id=14&lang=en
I still remain to be convinced that you need a particular balance in your bank account. Everything I've read so far refers to income, not to net worth.

Thanks

It varies from area to area, each town has their own rules on residencier,

There's a minimum income, published each year, above which a Spaniard doesn't qualify for social security benefits. To get residencia, your income has to be above this minimum.
For last year, I understand (but I'm not certain) that it was published in Ley 3-2017, BOE-A-2017-7387. The problem is that this is 610 pages long, and I haven't got time to read it. Any volunteers?

I've now searched the law I referred to above, and the crucial bit seems to be reference to:
Indicador público de renta de efectos múltiples (IPREM)
The law states that this is used in different areas as a reference to determine the salary limit related to the granting of benefits and subsidies - unemployment benefit, housing benefit, etc.
The IPREM is published annually in the Ley de Presupuestos.
The 2018 amount is €537.84 per month.
I can well understand the authorities rounding this up to €600 for the purposes of residencia, to ensure that anyone with a variable income doesn't dip below the benefit threshold. €600 average should also be sufficient to cope with exchange rate fluctuations.

I have read all of this thread and it is so helpful. Thank you! I got my NIE number with the help of Jims Guide, from the consulate in London.
Anyway I am being made redundant month from a Military Rehab Hospital and will receive enough to make the move over. So if I open an account and transfer the 6000 into it and then set up a payment of at least 600 each month, after 3 months will this be enough to pass the residency application?
All I want to do is spend a year learning Spanish, then see where life takes me.:)
