I wouldn't worry about it. The last serious earthquake in this area was in 1829. All we've experienced in our years here have been minor tremors.

If there is a major event, get outside into the open as quickly as possible.

Iberia is on a mini-tectonic plate, which is being pushed into Europe by the African plate - and this caused the Pyrenees.

Hopefully others will post some ideas for precautions, but I'd say:

Try and get into the habit of not having objects too close to the edge of a drop - you don't want your Ming vase to fall and break.

Never leave a swimming pool empty.

If you have balustrades or a wall built on a flat roof, have them erected with a slight lean towards the roof; to try and prevent them falling onto the ground below.

And most important - when you pour yourself an alcoholic beverage, don't fill the glass to the brim.

Don't understand the question, what advice are you looking for exactly?

I think Jim's answer covers it.

Les attached thin chain to all the expensive pictures so if they fall off (which they have) they dont come crashing to the floor. Also velcro your ornaments you dont want breaking.

First time you hear it and feel the house shake is scary... but believe me, you never feel the same a second time... dont worry you will be fine...

I beleive Jim's advice is sound. If you have further doubts, don't go to the expense of a full face crash-helmet. A simple cycle helmet will suffice. Good advice. In order to avoid the subsequent sunami. Live inland. Hope this helps. V

Jim is correct. Get outside as quickly as possible and go to the most open ground nearby where there are no buildings.

But I wouldn't be losing any sleep over this!

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I'm sure they do Pete.

But many people have remained inside buildings as an earthquake hits only to become human pancakes.

I think each person would be entitled to take their chances with either advice!
