I have had my alarm go off twice in the last couple of weeks opening the door has revealed a Gecko a couple of yards from one of the sensors. Had a look on the net but products that people have used to dissaude them are not available here. I have tried spraying with long lasting insecticides around the sensors but it lasts only a couple of days. I was wondering about mounting the sensors on thin metal rods about 6" long, any other ideas anyone.

Hiya Mrmike,  I am making the assumption your system has been fitted with standard Passive Infra Red movement detectors ,(PIR's). If so, have you given any consideration to replacing them with Dual Technology PIR/ Microwave detectors ?

This could give greater immunity f4om 'false alarm 'activations .

If you do go down this route take care they are not positioned facing glass or plastic windows or partitions which border external walls

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I used roach spray on the wall around the sensor, got a couple of them too after the first night.

I always look after the Geckos, while they grow I know they are getting rid of a lot of other pests., my wife won't have them in the house, the odd small one sometimes managed to get in and make itself unfindable however, but when I was abroad I always had 2 or 3 in the flat.

These are outdoors, I have built a microwave detector and made a 12dB gain antenna to cover a particular area, it needs a double hit, don't know how Gecko proof that will be when it is installed. Anyway I have decided to mount the PIR detectors about 6" off the walls on a couple of 3mm diameter steel supports.I don't imagine them to be trapeze artists!!!! The flimsy mesh might work for the bigger ones. I will try both methods

The problem is with the sensors, it's a low quality what means it goes of even with a spiders.

Ours are set to min 10kgs so small cats and dogs are also not an issue.

If you wanna know more I can tell you all about it
