Thank you to the person who answered me.   As fare as we know everything to do with Spain is in order.  We have an accountant even though we do not rent the property anymore.  We went through everything with the accountant.  This is why we were shocked to find this letter from the tax office in 2019.  The accountant is a nice man but with this he is not forth coming.  We keep on phoniing when they do finally answer they repeat that it is being dealt with.  I am not sure that his secretary was supposed to mention the high court.  All I want to know is why this is happening.  The accountant is not saying.  Now all I want is the tax office email address, the phone number and the address.  I am retired tax officer here and this is beyond anything that we would do.  5000e was mentioned by the accountant but since then he claims that he doesn’t know.  I just want to know why and deal with it myself. I would be grateful for the tax office email address the phone number and the address.  Please.

Hello Margaret

The tax agency  (Hacienda) doesn't seem to have a designated office in Torrevieja. This link will give you a choice of nearest affices but you would have to ask your    accountant which office they are dealing with for your property

https://www.cita-previa.es/hacienda/torrevieja

Here is another link that might help as, it seems every contact with the office needs  a prior appt.

https://hacienda.org.es/pedir-cita-previa-hacienda.html

By phone or online seem to be the way to go to make an appt.

Hope some of this helps

Cheers

Hi Margaret,

I responded to your original post, suggesting that you speak to your accountant - you're paying for his service and he must know what has prompted the tax bill you've received.  If you're sure that your Spanish tax affairs are in order, the only reason I can think of, as to why he would not be forthcoming with an explanation, is if he has made an error, such as a late filing of your tax returns, resulting in a fine.  If you contact the Spanish tax office direct (the Agencia Tributaria), you risk alienating your accountant.

If you haven't already done do, I would suggest contacting him formally in writing, explaining that you must understand why these unexpected amounts are being deducted from your bank account and what grounds you have for appeal.  It may be worth mentioning that if he cannot offer an explanation, you will have to contact the AEAT direct yourself.

If you're adamant about dealing direct with the Agencia Tributaria (do you speak Spanish?), you will need your husband's unique tax reference, which he can get from his NIE certificate.  For clarity, this is not the green Residencia certificate, it is a white A4 document.

Best wishes,

Kim

Thank you Kim.  You are right we don't want to alienate the accountant.  we also believe that there is a good chance he has made an error.  if he would just be upfront.  it has been two years. The tax office has already taken 3000e.  Money that was there to cover our backs so that we could try and keep our heads above water here.  The mortgage still has to be paid, we have no idea when they are next going to clean us out.  I am not good with not knowing and not dealing with situations.  To add to this, squatters got into the house. Luckily our friends pool man raised the alarm.  Just a bit of a stressful time.  Hopefully we can get out there soon.
