Hi, I’m visiting Torrevieja soon to sus out small properties. I’m getting loads of emails showing reasonable priced apts and bungalows and am aware of extra expenses which would occur when purchasing.

Can anyone give me a general list of utilities I’d expect to pay annually! And of course any hidden charges people have had to meet. Thanks in advance!

Hello Gerry, could you let us know if you will be living in it permanently, using it purely as a holiday home or considering renting it out please as the answers will vary accordingly.

You will have to pay a standing charge for electric which can be about €30 a month,  water (I'm not on mains so don't know the standing charge for mains water),  IBI which is the council tax collected by Suma and rubbish, which in some areas is collected separately, some with car tax and some with the IBI. If you want internet and/or TV there are companies who offer different pay as you go tariffs then there is your annual non-resident's tax,  holiday home insurance and any community fees.
Some holiday home owners employ a key holder who can inspect the property on a regular basis and are nearby should any problems arise and if you are not going to be coming regularly throughout the year you would need to check your holiday home insurance for any restrictions on the maximum time it can be left empty.
It is very difficult to guess electric bills as it depends on usage and tariff. I don't have air con as I prefer ceiling fans so my electric bills are pretty constant at @ €40-50 per month all year and the rubbish charge was so small I barely noticed it.

and not forgetting the Bank Charges for having an account that pays for your utility bills - on average 30+ euros per quarter
