Where can you buy dressmaking fabric in the Orihuela Costa area, please?
I would love to find fabric shops in the area, if anyone knows of any? Thanks ☺️

Unfortunately, it appears to me that most of these have gone the way of all flesh!!! Many years ago there were many fabric shops as most Spanish women did a lot of dressmaking, embroidery etc. With the advent of imported cheap clothing and the change in women’s lives, they all appear to have disappeared, as making anything is no longer competitive with buying cheap readily available clothing. I doubt any really exist outside perhaps Madrid or Barcelona - and they are likely to be high end expensive fabrics. I have found a couple of outlets in our area - effectively Denia region - and one is stuff I would never contemplate - cheap, nasty - and the other really sells stuff appropriate for ‘fallas’ and fiestas; some of it silk Dupion/taffeta but I doubt its what you are looking for.
I have almost given up in despair, but I also used to subscribe to a German based international fabric company, selling only online, called my fabrics.co.uk - change the suffix to your country ie .es. They have wide ranges of all kinds of fabrics - I know its not the same as seeing the stuff but they will send samples, cost refundable on order. They are highly efficient and I have used them many times.
Hope this helps.

Thant you for your reply, Stephanie. Such a shame really. Was hoping to buy some fabric to take back to UK. I run sewing classes there - lots of interest in learning to sew there 😊 Buying on line not so enjoyable! Karen ☺️

One also used to be able to buy handwoven ‘folk’ type woollen fabrics many years ago - my mother had several skirts which she made from it. Personally its the sort of stuff I hate (!) but again, I’ve not seen any of that either. Curiously there are a lot of shops selling furnishing fabrics of various kinds - again, not usually the kind of thing I like and not brilliant quality.
If you run dress making classes - there are a huge number of fabric sellers on eBay uk - and I have bought quite successfully from them before now, although I don’t really know what you’re looking for, but I did obtain some very good viscose jerseys quite inexpensively. It’s difficult enough now even in UK to find fabrics - I used to haunt the Goldhawk Road in London!!!
