I'll be making a second visit to my property on La Siesta in a few weeks and need to find some Hammerite-style white paint to spruce up the roof top furniture.  I know there are DIY shops such as AKI in the Habaneras centre, as well as others, but can anyone advise me if they have bought this kind of paint in the Torrevieja area?

I've just had a look at their website and there are a few possibilities there, not including Hammerite though.  Just looking for recommendations from others who may have painted something similar (see my photo)

You can buy Hammerite in some places, but the problem is using it in warm weather as the solvent evaporates so quickly.

The direct Spanish equivalent is Oxirite, which doesn't go off as quickly but is just as good as Hammerite.

You should find it in any shop that sells paint. I don't know Torre, but Brochacolor have a shop on Poligono Casa Grande.

Not sure about that, Kim. great minds shouldn't be parked on their bums behind their computers.

I may have said it before, but:

A train station is where a train stops

A bus station is where a bus stops

On my desk, I have a work station.

Your advice much appreciated.  I didn't know that Hammerite would not react well to strong sun so that's useful to know.  I'm a Spanish newbie at all of this!

Thanks Kim - very helpful.  Habaneras is only a couple of miles from my house so I will more than likely get what I need from AKI.  Thank you for the tip about Oxirite.  I will learn about all of these Spanish-related problems as I can go along (the sun being a problem - not!)

Hammerite is perfectly OK, and I do still have some I'm using up, but I'd never use it in the heat of summer as it's impossible to keep a wet edge and you end up with loads of lumpy brush marks.

I'll be doing it in April, or rather a house guest will.  She has volunteered to do some painting so a nice tricky job like that table and four chairs should keep her occupied for a while!  I'm not sure I would have the patience.  I will just give the top a good scrub. The furniture is obviously old but perfectly serviceable and that granite top means the table will never blow over.

The whisky bottle whispered to me an hour ago, and I'm afraid I succumbed. Whisky gets better with age - the older I get, the more I like it.

I've just sent a friend who's a telly addict an article from this week's New Scientist magazine saying there's proof that over three hours a day watching telly harms short term memory. There was also an interesting article about a woman who can smell when someone has Parkinson's before this is diagnosed, and that this has opened up a new area of research. New Scientist, Scientific American, and such magazines are the extent of my future learning these days.

Serious thread drift, but who cares!
