Hi all I am going to torevevija to look at properties from 9th June to 19th June. Unfortunately I have mislaid my credit card and can't get a replacement in time. Does anyone know a company that will hire on a debit card longshot but thought I would ask the forum. Thanks in advance G

Most car hire companies will accept a debit card provided it's Visa or Mastercard etc. but will put a holding fee (sometimes around 500 euro) on the card which they don't take if there's no damage on return. Be careful with some unscrupulous car hire companies like Goldcar, always look at reviews first.

Prepaid cards are usually not accepted.

Marcliff, I think you're wrong here.

I've never seen a mainstream company that will accept a debit card. It's always a credit card and nearer 1100 euros pre charged on the card.

I'm happy to be corrected though.

Really? Don't know about the pre-payment as it's a long time since I did it but that would only be with a debit card anyway. I've never had an excess put on a credit card as they have your details.

This is Avis car hire at Alicante "Can I pay for my Alicante Airport rental car with a debit card? Yes. You can pay for your Alicante Airport car rental using Visa and MasterCard debit cards"

Goldcar Alicante "Goldcar only accepts payments with credit or debit cards. Unfortunately, payment in cash or wire transfer for rental vehicles is not accepted."

Enterprise Alicante "Renters may pay by cash or card. All major debit and credit cards (issued by either Visa or Mastercard or American Express) are accepted. All cards must be physically presented and in the renter's name."

And  that's just the first 3.

This isn't going very far is it? It would seem all car hire companies accept a debit card despite some not believing it.

Just looking up the company will answer the question.

Coys? "b) VISA debit or credit card or MasterCard, Maestro, Union Pay, JCB and V pay when the vehicle is collected. The card must be under the name of the person "

I think this subject can now be put to bed.
