Hi I hire cars on a regular basis at Alicante airport. Most of the hire companies can be found on search engines on the internet, just put in "car hire Alicante airport" in your browser and go on from there. If you are not taking the hire companies excess insurance cover you will need a credit card so that they can block a deposit on it until the car is returned in the same condition it was issued in. However based on painful past experience stay well clear of Dickmanns car hire. They may be slightly cheaper than most but they will take the deposit from your credit card into their own account as soon as your hire commences. They say that it will be returned 20 working days after the end of the hire if everything is alright with the car but the reality is that it takes anything up to three months. They appear to be using the deposits as working capital for the business. You will incur interest charges on your card and currency exchange charges on your deposit. BEWARE!!!!!

The ZEST search engine is giving a second driver free and excess insurance cover with your hire.

Hi Barri,

there's a very long thread about avoiding Dickmans. Everyone has their favourites though and I think you'll get several replies.

Before I moved over with my own car I used Centauro and found them to be excellent. They're in the airport concourse. Staff are polite and the queues are never long so the service is quick.

Yes, they do take a security deposit, but I never had any issues when returning the car and the deposit was always credited back immediately.

Ensure you purchase your own 'insurance' in the uk, car hire companies don't like it but it's a lot cheaper. That way the car hire is relatively cheap....ensure you get full to full deal for the fuel ( take it full...bring it back full).  I use a new company called auto click, I find them very good BUT...scrutinise and video the car on collection as they do on its return and will ding you 50€ for the tiniest mark or scuffed wheel. Saying that, I am ever so fastidious when I pick the car up and point out anything I am in happy with...I find them very competitive in price and all the cars are new.

Hi Barri, we always hire from EDI car hire. They are a small family based business and we can highly recommend them. No added extra costs with them, rates are very competitive. They are based in El Campello and will pick up from Alicante or Murcia airports. Have a look at their reviews, they are very good.

Hope you get suited.

Regards Roxy47.

Thank you for this link, I had never heard of them but looking at their website they are worth a try next time I come over. Do you know what their fuel policy is?

Regards,

Claudio
