Hello everyone. I'm looking for info/advice/recommendations about acoustic insulation, in particular ceiling insulation, to try to reduce the effect of noise from the flat above. (sardonic comments not required)

Hi Jimmy, we live in a country villa so noise is not a problem, it was the cold that drove us to internally insulate all external walls and put false ceilings in, packed out with insulation, but I understand from various posts that noise is often a problem and we know that you can buy acoustic sheets. For the ceiling my husband (and excuse the lack of correct terminology) put up a framework of metal with the insulation above (and new wiring) and plaster-boarded over. For the walls we just stuck the insulation sheets to the wall and again plaster-boarded over as per instructions from Leroy Merlin. In the rooms we have completed the heat retention is noticeably much better. I would imagine that if the ceiling is sound you can just stick it up directly on to the existing ceiling, they may even do acoustic sheets with plasterboard already on it but I don't know for sure.
