Hi All,

I would be most grateful for some advice please.

If my orange butane hose is out of date am I permitted to replace it (and regulator if necessary) myself or must I telephone and pay for the chap who put a card through my door? It is only secured at cooker and regulator by

Thanks in anticipation.

Chris

Nothing at all wrong with doing it yourself. Obviously make sure you get good seals. If you want to test the seals, put some washing up detergent solution around them and see if any bubbles emerge.

I don't know the actual legality of DIY, I suppose you could argue that with regulators and hose so freely available if a law does exist it's probably toothless and therefore widely disregarded.

FWIW I've been doing my own work for over a decade without any problems whatsoever but then I've always owned detached properties where the only potential loser from an accident or failure would have been me, I think if I'd been somewhere where it could have affected others I may perhaps have thought twice about it.

Ultimately any problems resultant from DIY would probably boil down to your property insurance so assuming that you feel confident enough to actually do the work the decision on whether to or not is for you to make however it being a very quick and easy job employing a genuine pro won't risk breaking the bank.

If you do get somebody in then make sure they are properly qualified and registered in Spain to work on gas systems, many are not and I would suggest that those who are are likely sufficiently well enough occupied as to not need to be putting cards through doors!

Note, despite what some may claim or would have you believe a UK CORGI certification is NOT a recognised qualfication in Spain.

Hi,

If you feel competent to complete the task them most people DIY the job.

They sell the hose, regulator and clips in the the China Bazaar shop in Villajoyosa.

Top tip boil a cup of water and put end of hose in for a few seconds, this makes it easier slide the hose onto the regulator and pipe fitting.
