Hello

There was not a catagory for me to post what I wnt to say so maybe someone looking in the missing persons category will see this and advise me where I should have posted it!!!

We all feel devastated, frightened and want to help the Ukrainians as far as I have ascertained.

But what can we do?

Apart from sending money or clothes or helping some charity I would so love to do something more. I think many people feel this way. This morning I heard on English radio (yes I know Im a biot sad still listening to my old radio station from back in good old Dorset!) that people are offering their homes to refugees from Ukraine. Well, we could do that here. Most of us ex pats are incredibly lucky and have a bit of space to spare. The UK authorities are asking anybody who offers this to do so for a minimum of 6 months. We could do this here. Couldn't we? I am not sure about the legalities of offering refugees to come to a country where I do not really belong! We have full Residencia but can anybody help or advise me as to the legality and possibility of doing this. And how. AND who else out there would be prepared to do this? I cannot be the only person moved to tears for these poor poor people. And, if the dice had rolled differently, it could have been you. Or me.......

Thank you for reading.

Chesca.

Hi,

I've seen on the website www.benidorm.org/en/news, that they have opened a registration for citizens wanting to offer accomodation to Ukranian refugees. This may be a starting point for you.

Check with your local ayuntamiento.

I live in the municipality of Guardamar and our town hall have asks for supplies and volunteers to help pack donations. They are also compiling a list of people willing to take in Ukrainians who have  fled their country. I know both Torrevieja and Orihuela municipalities are doing the same. Hotels are also being reopened to help the hopeless.

Lots of people have already received people into their homes and have asked for donations of toys etc to help the families they are housing.

As for supplies - Ask around, there are a number of Ukrainians living in the area, they will be able to tell you exactly what their families need.  The lady in our local shop has family still in the Ukraine and has told us food supplies are low. In particular they need flour to make bread, so the community has got together to ask everyone to donate a bag of flour each  for her to send on to her family. Even such a small gesture  will make a huge difference to families who have had their lives turned upside down.

Collection points are full to bursting with donations which is why the town halls are asking for volunteers to help sort and package goods as lorries are leaving on a daily basis.

Again your town hall will be able to point you in the right direction if you want to offer your help or your home.

Thank you so much. Great help. And so good to know that humanity is not so bad as we sometimes think!

Good afternoon everybody who replied to my Ukrainian post.

Thank you again for the help and advice and for the private messages.

Yesterday a lovely family came to us. A mum and her 2 daughters who drove here from Ukraine. Dad was not allowed to leave. It is heartbreaking. They are going to live in our little house by the beach and I wondered if there is anybody else out there who would like to give the same help? There are many families who need our help. As I said before, the situation is so terrible and it could have been us!

Also, does anybody know any Ukrainians locally whom we could put them in touch with please?

On another score, we are ex foster parents with 5 grown children of our own and we may help orphaned children..... let me know if you have any knowledge of such children. Thank you.

Francesca.
