Hi, I have been reading answers to some banking posts and charges. In the UK I bank with Santander so I just thought with it being a Spanish bank I would be OK when it comes to buying property and everyday banking when living in Spain. Is this not the case,is this one of those banks with high charges !!

You could ask these questions at your UK Santander bank for clarity? But I am on the understanding the Spanish Santander bank operates differently to the UK. Perhaps if you find out you could let us know on this forum. good luck and stay healthy my friend.

If you have a UK Santander 123 account, or other qualifying account, then you can withdraw money, fee free, from Spanish Santander ATMs on the mainland. However, the UK Santander is totally separate from the Spanish Santander.

Just make sure that you decline conversion rate at the ATM and you'll get the visa rate for Euros, fee free, straight from you account in the UK.

I had thought that this would have been stopped after Brexit but Santander have confirmed that this facility is still available.

I agree with the above in terms of ATM euros conversation. In terms of bank overall they are 2 separate organisations. You will get no benefit in Spain from having a UK Santander account, I went through it with my UK Santander bank and then visited Santander in Spain. You just have to look at them as any other bank, as you shop the market, and frankly none of them are good from a charges point of view, as you would expect from a UK banking perspective.

I can verify what PeterPan said. My missus has been getting free withdrawals for years now, using her Santander UK debit card.

Cheers

Santander Spain and Santander UK are two different companies who do not work together. It's that simple. I do not know if Santander Spain charges are any more or less than any other Spanish bank although I suspect they are much of a muchness. 18 months ago I had a good look at them all and that was my opinion then. I had pushed my Santander UK bank to help me and mentioned my UK 123 account when over there but frankly they had heard it all before. They may well be as good as anybody but Santander UK makes no difference. Hope that helps.
