Hello everyone, we are coming over from uk to villamartin on 27th jan for 4 days. We were going to hire a car at the airport but they are asking us to pay 1400 euro for excess! What Is the point in taking out insurance then? Any recommendations for hire firms?? Help🙈

Hi Holly62,
The 1400 excess is not taken as payment, it is only taken in the event of an accident. However, you can get insurance against the excess in the UK. I got insurance from the RAC for around £48.00 for the full year. This insures you against the excess should you have an accident and they take the full amount. You claim it back off the insurance company.
Alternatively, you can pay the hire companies full insurance per day and then there is no excess, it usually adds around 15-25 euros per day to the cost of the hire.
I've found www.doyouspain.com to have good hire deals.
If you decide against a hire at the airport then you can hire a car in Villamartin. Just take your passport and drivers license and the hire price includes insurance etc, no excess. I think there is one across from Villamartin plaza called D&M, a very basic car costs around 70 euros for the full week.
