I visit my holiday home 4 to 5 times per year. Last few times/my neighbours keep parking in front of my driveway. I asked them politely to move their car so I can open the gates and park my car. I realise there is no law in Spain against someone parking in front of the driveway. Can someone help me to get a ‘Vida’ in Spain.

I  can’t help you get a “vida”  (lol) but I presume you are thinking of  a "Vado Permanente"   You need to apply at your town hall, taking  photos of your driveway and the entrance with you. If you already have a dropped kerb then you should be OK, otherwise you will have to pay  an increased cost for dropping the kerb. They should then provide you with a Vado Permanente sign and the registration number plus complete any road markings.

Be aware that this only gives you the right to drive across they pavement into your driveway and Vado Permanente means a permanent ford. You will not be allowed to park your car in front of the entrance and it could be towed away if you do so.

The ayuntamiento will advise the initial costs and then the annual fees are normally collected by SUMA.

Thank you . I found this helpful. I can start the paper work but will have to take photos when I am next in Spain

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

We have recently had a temporary school opened near us. First off they painted parking places in the adjacent roads leaving areas in front of double gates etc free. The main road outside the school has yellow lines which are not respected twice a day, The parking spaces marked out in the adjacent roads are mainly occupied by teachers from the school and if one goes out in the car at anytime after 8:30 they will not be able to find a spot on their return. This brings me to say that while I kept the kerbsides clean outside my property before when I was parking there, I for one will no longer perform this service for the new occupiers. After all I heard someone in Carrefour referring to this area as the "Ghetto" a few months ago, a title which it is earning daily. Btw. I know no-one has a natural born right to park on the road or to disrespect traffic regs etc.

The School in question has ample space for its teachers to park within its encosed area and still have plenty of space for its pupils free time. Not sure about the quality of the air in its location during weekdays.

That´s my moan for this week.
