I have just received bill for car tax it has come out €106 the car is over ten years old the car dealer was unable to tell me what the cost was last year although I remember being told no more than € 50 he also advised the car tax amount is calculated on the area I live in can this be correct can I challenge the amount it’s a Volkswagen Beetle small engine just seems quite steep

Could it be that you mix up transfer tax and annual road tax?

Yes thanks I used site my bill states my car is 12 horse power I am not sure if correct it’s only a beetle does that sound right puzxled

To add to what Ray has said, the Fiscal horsepower is shown on the old paper Tarjeta as Potencia fiscal, and on the newer Tarjeta eITV at field P.2.1. When you enter the amount, just enter the whole number and ignore decimal places.
From my experience, the SUMA system seems to round up the tax amount to a while number of euros.
