We are looking to buy a property on the costa Blanca to live permanently we have looked at quesada and surrounding areas but didn't quite do it for us we are now looking at villa Martin and playa flamenca areas our question is are these places ok for all round living or just the summer season we would like to buy a place with in walking distance to bars shops etc and a mixed community our worry is that we buy and it's lovely in the summer but everything shuts in the winter we don't expect everything to be open but a few local bars and restaurants that stay open year round

Hi

Thx for the advice most helpful we have visited quesada twice for a week at a time to see what it is like the first time with the estate agent looked buzzing by the arches then we left to view properties this time we went for a week on our own and found that from the arches 5 mins later nothing we are just trying to get advice from people who know these areas if they are awake all year round and save us doing weekly trips we want to come out in Jan for a week just to look at areas and then maybe do a 3 month rental we have found location to be all important the prices wherever are relative so any advice you can give us much appreciated

We bought 14 months ago in la zenia (next door to playa F)....we love it so much, we have such a diverse nationality all around our place, it’s extremely quiet, yet 4-5 min walk to the beach and 5 min walk to the shopping boulevard. Yes it’s quieter in winter but certainly not dead....even in summer it’s not rowdy.   Take your time and get a feel....we didn’t, just loved the house and when we saw the beach...well....

Many thanks for advice we are visiting in January now just to see the areas and then back in April for longer term rental or possible purchase we have come to the conclusion that there are so many lovely properties in so many places so we are concentrating on finding the perfect location

Hi Ken & Sue

I bought a property two years ago in Villamartin and my main question which will hopefully make your decision easier is if you will have a car?

We don't and rely on bus service which is a nightmare at times as they dont operate on Sat/Sundays and weekdays are roughly every 90mins. This is a pain if we are going to do shopping or go to beach etc. From the plaza to La Zenia Boulevard is approx 40mins walk (and we are walkers).I love our place and love Villamartin but if I had a choice I would have gone closer towards La Zenia or Playa Flamenca (although I wouldn't have got the space)

Hope this helps your decision

Hi Ken and Sue

I have private messaged you with contact details for our property finding service.  We have lots of information on the different areas and can help with all sorts of questions.  Certainly the Orihuela Costa offers all year round living as most of the facilities stay open all year, and of course the Boulevard is busy all the time which helps keeps the whole area alive all year.  But even if you are very close to one of the busier commercial centres there are quiet corners to be found.  Happy to help with questions on the area, buying property etc.  We cover the Quesada area as well as OC.  I have sent the contact details.  Beverley.

Hi Ken & Sue,

You appear to be in the same position as we were 2 years ago, not sure whether to go for Playa Flamenca or Villamartin. We rented an apartment in Villamartin for 3 weeks intending to view properties there first. It is a very pretty area and well maintained but we felt that it was a place that you must have a car. We bought in Playa Flamenca and live in the Las Piscinas area, close to the CDM Sports Centre. I managed without a car for the first year, and know many people who continue without one ok. The bus service is very limited. However, it will take you to the medical centre at Cabo Roig, and the hospital at Torrevieja. La Zenia Boulevard, Playa Flamenca beach, Orihuela Costa town hall, Civic Centre, local Police station etc are all within 10-20 minutes walk for us. The bars and entertainment are open all year round. In particular, the urbanisation called La Florida, again just 10 minutes walk, has good bars/restaurants which have live entertainment all through the year. The Emerald Isle is a very popular venue. ( We were there yesterday afternoon, sitting in the sun listening to live music. A special deal for November being a meal and a glass of wine or beer for 5€). The Playa Flamenca street market is in Calle Nicolas De Bussi on a Saturday. Pick up a free map from somewhere and look at all the urbanisations to see where any properties are situated. If you have a car, and are a keen golf player, then Villamartin might suit you. It is only 10 minutes from here in the car, so nowhere is totally isolated if you drive. For bars and entertainment I would choose Playa Flamenca any day.

Very best of luck in finding the ideal spot for you both, and I hope you will be as happy as we are.

Hi Chezste.

We are looking out to that area in about a year and a half. My daughter will be 17 and son 19. They do not  speak Spanish. Are there plenty of the same age groups to make friends? Thanks, Emma.
