Hi I've some loose floor tiles and some areas where the grout has disappeared can anyone advise on what to do?  It's not the whole floor just little bits in various rooms.

Hi Max

A number of reasons for your problem to occur, typically a lack of expansion gaps in the tiling or too little space left between the tiles when they were fitted. Anyway, that does not answer your question!

Two things, loose tiles and missing grout.

The loose tiles should be lifted and the adhesive below it removed. There are a couple of ways to do this. IF you have a steam wallpaper remover then this can help as it softens the adhesive. Particularly great when tiles are installed on wooden floors but not as good when onto concrete, but does still work. Then you need to scrape the excess adhesive away. If you have an oscillating multi-tool then this is the least labour intense solution, otherwise, it is elbow grease I am afraid!!

When all the adhesive is gone, clean the area thoroughly and then re apply the adhesive. You can but readymixed as well as dry, which you mix yourself.

As for the grout, you need to vac out all the loose grout first and then, if you have an old scraper, tease away to get rid of any remaining loose grout. It is straight forward enough the regrout without the need to take it all away from a large area, but ideally enough to get plenty grout in to hold, otherwise it will flake off.

You will need the tile grout, a trowel or scraper, a sponge and water to use whilst cleaning and finishing as you go along.

Let me know if you need any further info?

Hope it helps
