I have just found out that Caixabank charge a quarterly bank fee. Do all banks charge these fees or just them

Assuming you're a non resident I believe all Spanish banks charge hefty fee's hence most people using WISE or Revolut or similar.

If you look at the contract they made you sign when you opened the account (but never gave you time to read or translate), somewhere in there it says that you accept a quarterly fee.  I tried to object to paying for nothing, and they just slammed the contract on the  table in front of me and pointed to my signature.

There are a number of options that allow fee free banking if resident - Wefferent from Cajamar, N26 and others that I've forgotten if you search at the top of the page on similar terms.

If non-resident, then it's likely Wise (not a bank but you can pay DDs etc out of it as they provide a full BE IBAN to provide to Iberdrola, SUMA, Hidragua etc).

I have been charged by our Spanish bank 2 x 25 euros for tax certificates. Is this normal?

Yes. Every 2 years non residents must confirm they are still non residents earning income from elsewhere and the tax authorities won't chase you for tax returns. The bank does it for you and charges a fee.

That 25 euro is quite reasonable as some banks charge up to 40 euro for it.

Many thanks, that's very helpful. We have just purchased our new home and moving permanently next year.

The certificate of non residency will no longer be required once you become a resident so make sure you tell your bank.
