Opened a bank account in April with Sabadell from future emigration to Spain. Hearing bad things about this bank. Also the app on my phone told me to update and now it’s just a blank screen. Any info appreciated. Also how easy is it to change banks once in Spain

I've been with Sabadell for 14 years. I opened the account initially (as you are) with the view to moving here permanently. I've had a resident account with Sabadell since moving here in 2014. Since I've been using their app I've only been inside a bank a couple of times as I can do all my daily banking and business very easily using the app. I've always been happy and satisfied with Sabadell Bank. I think that you may need a Spanish phone number for the app to work correctly.
Believe me, I've read many horror stories about most of Spanish banks on the expat sites I've belonged to since before moving here. I recommend Sabadell.

You can't just pick out Sabadell on Trustpilot.....
BBVA 1 star
Caixa 1 Star
Santander 1 star
ING 2 star
Bankinter 1½ star
I wonder why they all have a bad name too.....
So they all are about the same....which do you suggest is best??
I still recommend Sabadell 👌

Blame it on Sabadell 😀. Seriously though, After 25 years here & opening a CAM bank a/c ), taken over by Sabadell, I've never had a problem. V

I was with Sabadell when I first bought in Spain - the account was set-up through my Solicitors at the branch local to them (they took me to the branch and IIRC, I was given a card and pin number there and then).
I never had any problem with either their app, their website or speaking to customer services via the phone. Indeed, I recall contacting them on Twitter and they sent me a message asking when I'd liked to receive a phone call to discuss the issue (on my then UK mobile) and whether I would like to be rung by an English or Spanish speaking individual. That level of service I think is probably better than most UK banks would offer. I never went into a branch when I was them as all the above were able to cover my queries etc.
However, I moved to N26 early in 2020 and encountered great difficulty in closing the Sabadell account as it was during the pandemic and Sabadell insisted that to close the account you needed to go the same branch you opened it at (which was across the border in Murcia when you weren't allowed to cross community borders).
Anyhow, that was resolved eventually. The "objections" that oft frequent these boards are non-resident annual account fees as well as deductions re the non-resident declaration they need to provide to the tax authorities. Both these can be avoided by using Wise at present but they obviously have no branch network and no FSCS protection.

I have used the Sabadell bank for 15 years. Excellent service at my local branch in Gran Alacant, and also on the couple of occasions I have phoned them.
Note to op: In a lot of European countries it is only possible to access businesses by using a mobile number of that country.
Cheers, J
