Morning dickie333, I am led to believe   that the council used to collect fees for waste management / refuse collections via water bills but have recently changed to collecting from bank accounts, I am assume the fee is in the region of €35, I think it’s being collected twice a year, would have been nice if the council had informed everybody that this change was going to happen 🤭🤭

SUMA Gestion Tributaria are taxes collected by a company called SUMA on behalf of town councils in the Alicante region.

These taxes are for cars (IVTM), rubbish collection, annual council tax, garage access and others.

The full list and when they are collected are here https://www.suma.es/en/calendario-del-contribuyente

Until recently, the charge for rubbish collection was included in your quarterly water bills. This is now collected by SUMA as a separate tax. Some councils collect it annually which will be taken in the first part of the year. Others take it twice yearly in the first part (listed as other) of the year and towards the end of the year, usually October. Modifications to the collection of these taxes was announced on the SUMA website some time ago and some councils started it several years ago but others are only just getting around to it.

Your quarterly water rates will be reduced by that amount.

The bank reference is not particularly helpful as it generally doesn't say what the charge is for, simply a tax collection by SUMA but the calendar above will show you the taxes and the dates they are collected. Rubbish collection taxes are around 78 euro a year which will be halved if you are in a council area which takes the tax twice a year.

If you have a car then the road tax will be taken at the same time.

To be fair we did have an email from SUMA confirming the amount and date it would be taken, so it did not come out of the blue for us.

Re your bank statement, if you have online access, then, usually,  clicking on the entry, assuming it’s something like a Suma bill, will open a more comprehensive document showing more detail.
