Under EU portability rules, you were able to use subscription services outside their intended eu country without the need for a vpn / smart dnd service for a limited number of days. After that number of days expired, then your account needed to be used / relogged in using a UK IP address - either someone logging into the account from the UK, or using a vpn / SDNS service. This "proved" that you are only "short staying" in another EU country.
Now the UK is no longer in the EU, the EU portability rules no longer apply, and so to access UK online subscription services in the EU you will need a VPN / SDNS service to hide the fact you are trying to access UK only online content from outside the UK....just like you needed to do prior to two years ago when the portability rule came into effect.
A firestick will work, but with no VPN/ Sdns service you will only be offered the content from your local providers, ie Spanish providers. Most of this is still available in English, but do to how programmes are sold by programme makers, content does differ from country to country.
That said, I know that ITV have had a purge on some VPNs in the last month...weird when they have not done so for so many years...maybe to do with their britbox sevice, which is expected to launch in Europe this year....but then is there anything worth while watching on ITV anyway...?
