Hi, we had an issue with fibre installation whereupon the conduit has collapsed so the team were unable to install. Seems we will have to get this sorted or an alternative is to use air fibre. Has anyone had any experience of the air fibre? If so, what speeds were you receiving?

thanks

Never heard of "air fibre".

Fibre is usually used to describe a particular transmission medium and is, basically, a fibreglass tube carrying light signals with almost unlimited speed.

I think that the company maybe offering "Wimax" as an alternative, which is nowhere near as good as fibre. I'm not too sure about the coding enhancements available these days but we had this system when we first moved to Spain and we were getting around 10Mbs. However, things may have moved on but I would be very surprised if you get anything like fibre performance.

I would ask the team to provide new conduit or cable directly to your home. One of our neighbours had a similar issue and has a cable running from the junction box to his apartment. It sounds like the team want an easy job.

Fibre optic cable directly to home is the best way to receive a signal. Our fibre router at Villamartin regularly gives us upload speeds of over 100mbps over a single-mode fibre. We use Vega Fibre and found them reliable but to be honest fibre optic cable is not hard to understand. Simply, it is just a piece of flexible glass (cable) transmitting a signal for the end user to have internet in their property. I was involved in project managing fibre optic installations for the past 25yrs until I retired early this year, so I know a bit about fibre.

 Jim

Thanks Jim, I’m going to ask them to try again with the installation. Enjoy the retirement!

Like you I have tried to have fibre installed but the conduit is blocked.  The company has suggested that they will dig up the neighbours garden but the neighbours were reluctant to agree.  A company called Airsat were cold calling on the urb. and got my interest.  They appear to use Wimax and have offered speeds up to 1000Mbp for 20 euro.  I have yet to see an installer so have been unable to ask more questions.  Like you it would be nice to know someone that has gone down this route.  Maybe I will have to become the first.

Hello Geoffo, I read your post with interest about WiMAX as we too have been told the same thing. We have recently purchased in Villamartin and the cables apparently have collapsed around our property. It seemingly affects 87 properties near us.

We too are struggling to get any real answers (we’re still in UK at the moment and due over in mid January) but the previous owner of our property has been using WiMAX with the company No Limit and he had a dish on the roof. He said he got British TV etc and used a Firestick, but we’re not convinced that the speeds will be enough.

I’ve been in touch with No Limit and they say they can provide a speed of 50 mbps with this system. The other big providers in the area will only offer 8 to 12 mbps as I’ve been in touch with all of them

Did you get any joy with that other company? We’d be interested to know any of your findings. Thanks

Regards. Julie.

Hello, did you have any joy with your Airfibre, WiMAX?

We too are having the same problem with our recently purchased property.

The previous owner of ours used a company called No Limit and was able to get 50 mbps. We’re still in the UK at the moment and due over in mid January to get it all sorted……hopefully!

Just wondered how you’d got on?

We were really disappointed to find we can’t get fibre optic broadband. Hope you had some success..

Regards

No joy I'm afraid.  Looks like I'm stuck with Telecable , which if I'm honest is not so bad, but can't get above 12Mbs. Waiting on my neighbours to see if I can remove their garden tiles and dig up their garden.
