Good day. Has anyone had problems with getting a refund with EasyJet? We booked our flights out to Alicanti on 6th April 2020 in November last year. We have had an email to say the flight has been cancelled and that's where the problem begins. The want us to accept a voucher which  is only valid for 6 months. As we have already booked for August we want a refund. In the email it states if you want a refund then you need to call customer services, however when you call the number it gives you it leaves a message stating "Go to manage flights" the dropdown menue does not give you the option to take a refund. I dont want to reschedule neither accept a voucher. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you get on?

Thanks Paul

Hi Paul,

there is another topic/thread related to Easyjet refunds on this site:

Easyjet

Lot of input which you might find your answer. If all else fails then you should be able to contact your credit card company (if you paid by CC) and get a refund from them or/and ask your travel insurer.  Good luck.

Aitch.

I would like to look into this too... but does anyone know a low-cost contact number?

Hi Slips

Have a look at abta.com/news/coronavirus-outbreak website as there is a section where they say about receiving voucher but if not used it to re-book in a certain time it can be refunded, or words to that effect.

Worth having a look to see how it reads to you.

Good luck 🤞

Thank you for your reply.

After reading what the gov has said I think I;ll just have to wait. The trouble is EasyJet are not doing themselves any favours by taking the refund option off 'manage booking' Even an auto reply with a ref number stating they had received your request but due to circumstances it will take longer then usual to refund your money, would go a long way. instead people think they are trying to pull a fast one. They should follow other airlines. If they should go under then they have only themselves to blame. Remember treat people fairly and they will return. All many are asking is to reassured they will refund your hard earned money

Thanks

 Paul

Hi Paul

Yes agree with you there - my husband and I should have been flying with them to a Agadir as part of a holiday packaged through Holiday Gems so we have to go through the holiday company initially.  However the extras, ie booking seats, was directly with them and we are yet to have a response to our email regarding this money.

If your flight has been cancelled Easyjet are legally obliged to refund your money and you don't have to let them fob you off with a voucher. I would refer you to the many references to this topic, made online, by the money expert, Martin Lewis.Worth investigating!

Thank you for your advice. My problem is now contacting easyjet for a refund. They have taken this option off manage bookings dropdown menu. When you ring them the pre recorded message asks you to call back. Again fobbing you off. I know this may not be priority for them but at this time we cant spend vouchers on essentials like food and Bill's. If anyone knows how to contact them other then email, which they dont reply to. Let me know. Thanks. Paul

Yes, you re legally entitled to refund, for now. And yes, Easyjet is being evasive.

At the moment the airline industry is lobbying the government hard for two things: Financial aid and to have the law changed to enable them to offer vouchers not refunds for cancelled flights.

Easyjet though have far bigger problems:

1. There is a serious boardroom split opening-up.

2. They are committed to buying new over-priced planes that they don't need (and they have possibly entered these contracts due to bribes from the planemaker to certain decision-makers in EJ).

3. The biggest share-holder (founder) it seems is attempting to drive down the share price potentially in an attempt to take the business private.

The fact is, Easyjet, like most airlines, can't afford to refund all the money for all the cancelled flights. This situation is partly our fault: We want cheap flight. We want airlines to run on a shoestring. If Easyjet said previously "If you pay an extra 20% for your flight, we'll be able to keep enough money in the bank to cover emergencies", everyone would say "feck that, I'm off to Ryanair".

We are only partly to blame. Easyjet has handled the Corona Virus situation dreadfully and in recent years the business has been run poorly. But at the end of the day the question is: Do we want Easyjet to disappear? If not, then sadly we might all have to accept vouchers, and even then there is a chance Easyjet will still go pop. One thing is for sure, if Easyjet go, prices will rocket.
