I wonder if anyone could direct me to some advice please?

We have just bought a holiday apartment here and we’re wondering about bringing our 10y old car from the UK to leave here as a runabout. We weren’t sure about several things:

Can we continue to drive it on our paper UK driving licenses?

Does it need to be registered here and can this happen if our main residence is still in the UK?

What other documentation and procedures need to be completed?

All advice will be gratefully received!

If you are not resident here the you may keep it here for a maximum of six months, after that time it must either leave Spain or be registered (Matriculated) here. For the duration of those six months it must have a valid UK MoT, road tax and insurance.

If you wish to register the car here then yes, that can be done even if your main residence is in the UK.

In your circumstances you do not need to change your licence for a Spanish one.

I believe you can leave car here as long as it has valid mot and insurance but cannot drive it more than six months each year or you would have to become resident this would mean taking it back to UK each year to re

new mot

And if you are a UK resident with a Spanish registered vehicle in your name you cannot legally drive it back on UK roads.
