Driving a uk car in Spain

I think it’s been asked before but a Spanish resident with a Spanish driving license can he drive a friends uk registered car while he is here short term in.Spain.

Yes you can. This gets mixed up because people conflate driving a vehicle with owning a vehicle.

You can drive a foreign registered vehicle as a Spanish citizen or resident but you can't own one. The owner doesn't need to be in the car with you but it is recommended that you carry a letter of permission to drive the car.

Just insured never mind fully!

Remember UK insurers will want additional driver(s) both notified and added to the owners policy and for non UK residents with non UK licences that can be that notoriously difficult with many insurers if not downright impossible.

Because of that unless specifically named on an owners policy you cannot simply jump into a friend or relatives UK car in Spain and drive it.

The advice from marcliff is a virtual crib from the FB N332 site but I'll wager it's given under the mistaken idea that car insurance in UK works the same way as it does here where it's the car which is insured not the driver.
