Hello everyone can anyone recommend a car hire company? We are coming over to villamartin from uk on 27th jan and it looks like the airport want 1400 euros up front for excess, even though we were going to take out insurance. Help please? X

Hi, That's how it works unless you take out their full insurance, I have a policy taken out in the UK that covers any excess costs but still have to pay their deposit.

Wiber rentacar €86 all inclusive no deposit,  they give you a bar code Judy scan it and collect the keys,  or €4 with €700 deposit on credit card , we use them all the time they are off airport but 2 mins in a little bus they pick up from lower level of airport

They’ll all want a deposit unless it’s their own insurance you take out. You said you were going to take out insurance so I presume it’s here from the rental company you’ll be getting it. If so the price by Wiber mentioned above is good as is their terms especially the Full-Full as you’ll hardly use a tank in 3 days. Drivalia Rental Cars couple minutes off the airport ( take minibus at airport level -2) has Full-Full too with a Qashqai or similar for €84. Centauro at the airport have a flash Sale 35/% discount online at the moment. Their premium rate includes everything with no deposit etc. A Fiat Panda is €76 and a Nissan Juke €85. it’s January so many of them should have special offers

For many years I used Gold Cars from Alicante. We always took out their comprehensive insurance in the UK before we flew, it was expensive but well worth it, hassle free pickup and drop off.  I have heard loads of bad story’s from car hire companies including Gold cars but I can only give my opinion on my 5yr experience with them. I was not keen in giving a car hire access to my credit card as a deposit on any damage to the car.

Dlrsantapola -

I’ve used Wiber too, always fully inclusive, and it has always been hassle-free. I also have uK yearly excess insurance.

For my next trip, I’d love to try their option without the all-inclusive option (€7 versus €70) but am scared that surely the only way they can make money is to ‘find’ a scratch or similar.....

I know I have the excess insurance, but is it worth the hassle? Have you tried their cheaper option? When I was leaving my car back last time, I walked away without a hitch, but the man next to me had a scratch that they found in the door handle and had to pay €120. Coincidence?
