Soon we emigrate to Spain and my question is this. I wish to buy a a LHD car in the UK to bring with me. I am aware of the 6 months rule. Does it make any difference to the import cost if the car has UK plates or European plates.

First thought is unless the car has been imported into the UK and has UK plates you can't legally drive it in the UK as a UK citizen. Just realised you are hoping to import the car as you are moving permanently so you will have to show the car as being registered in your name in the UK for 6 months so obviously you have insurance and UK plates. You will still have to get documenttion to show you are importing the car as part of your household goods in order to avail of import/VRT charges and change it to Spanish plates. You should ring somebody like Spanish Number Plates who are doing this type of work every day
