Driving down in Sept to Villamartin. Do I need any special stickers for my car (low emissions).

We will enter France from Calais and stick to west side motorways to our overnight Bordeaux hotel (just off the motorway), then next day again all motorway thru Zaragoza, Pamploma, Valencia etc thru to our destination. Not driving into any cities or major towns. Is there anything i need to apply for regarding the French or Spanish rules please?

Many thanks

At the moment everything is a bit hazy, as very few areas have got the zones in place. So whatever answer you get now, could well have changed by the time you complete your journey in September.

We presume that the zones will only be in  the city centres ( those with a population greater than 50k), but  those zones are all still top secret.

Most of us have got stickers ready in our cars, but the regulations differ for foreign vehicles.

There’s a link here which is from Torrevieja, which tries to explain what will happen - but basically they haven’t written the rules or worked out the zones - so it doesn’t make things any clearer.

Can’t help with the rules in France I’m afraid.

You can obtain a Crit'Air sticker for France with a UK reg car. Apply on the official Vignette site. This sticker will also be acceptable in Spain.

UK cars cannot, at the moment, apply for a LEZ sticker in Spain, only those registered in Spain. They are talking of a system to allow foreign cars to register but haven't come up with anything yet.

As you are not driving into cities in Spain you will not require one. In the Valencia Region, only Valencia has so far come up with a plan but no other cities have yet announced the areas nor have they installed the necessary signs and cameras. Supposed to be by the end of this year.

I would suggest that you have a look at the N332 website as it is for English speaking people and deals with anything to do with driving in Spain.   The site, and their Facebook page, is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil, it also has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.

Thsnks. I did look on the site but couldn't find a definitive answer to my question / route.

Hi

I did that exact journey in March (Derbyshire to Villamartin) via Calais, Rouen, tours, bordeaux, san sebastian, zaragoza, valencia, Villamartin. All on the Toll roads, no need for a Crit d’air sticker at all. Even though I have since ordered one, approx €4.50 delivered to a uk address.

By the way, my return journey was up the eastcoast, Barcelona, Girona, Clermont Ferrand, Orleans, around Paris, Calais. Again all on Toll roads, approx £30 cheaper in Tolls, 100 miles shorter but not as scenic overall, again no need for a Crit d’air sticker.

Hope this helps

The thing about the Crit'air sticker for France is that you can get one for a UK car and they will be valid for use in Spain if they bring the LEZs in.

There is no system, as yet, for getting the Spanish sticker for UK cars (Barcelona has a registration system like London) and the Spanish sticker is not valid in France (good old EU joined up thinking again).

So the Crit'air sticker sort of kills two birds with one stone.

Interesting.

Many thanks for this info.

I read in a thread recently on this forum that Rouen now has a low emissions zone and the relevant sticker is required. Understandable if you've ever tried to drive through Rouen in rush hour, or any other time for that matter. We haven't driven back to the UK since late last year so I can't confirm this but its worth investigating

I know its not relevant to your post but, having experienced Rouen on quite a few occasions, on our next trip in June we are planning on avoiding it. Might add time to the journey but its worth the reduced stress. 🤣
