I own a UK car in the UK and a Spanish car in Spain, I only have a Spanish license as I have Spanish residency, both are road legal and insured in their respective countries, I wasn't asked whether I'm resident in either country when I took out insurance, am I breaking the law?
Providing your UK insurer is happy with your licence & residency situation, you are OK to drive your UK car in the UK only. This is similar to non residents in Spain having a Spanish registered car or use at their holiday home.
With Spanish residency & Spanish licence you can drive your street legal Spanish car throughout the EU and the UK.
