Someone else may have some more detailed info about what happens when you buy privately, but when we bought our car from a dealer, they sorted out the first year and we visited the Suma office in Playa Flamenca with our cars documents to arrange a DD to be set up annually - it’s worked as it was deducted last week.

Unless you know the person personally, it is worth checking when purchasing a car privately that there is no debt with the vehicle. Top class advice from REH19.

Certainly set up a D.D at the Suma office, it takes away the hassle of the renewal process every year and they are most helpful at this office in Playa Flamenca.

For a private purchase it's a question normally asked of the seller. A receipt is given and should be kept with the other documentation to be produced on demand.

For a car bought from a dealer you'd expect them to have asked the question before taking a car in but you should still ask anyway.

Personally I don't like having any more DDs on my bank account than absolutely necessary so I pay my SUMA online during the March to May window the option is available.

Eventually your local SUMA office may send you a bill in the post but it can be hit and miss, it was only in my 5th year here that they finally sent me mine but by that time I'd already paid online anyway.

All you could ever want to know about SUMA!
