It depends on which country you live in Bosque.

For what purpose? An NIE is just your fiscal number and conveys no rights or benefits (unless you count paying tax as a benefit!).

Hi Bosque,
If you have an NIE, is it safe for me to assume you own property in Spain? If so, there are two main differences, now that UK citizens have become Third Country Nationals:
- your Non-resident tax liability increases from 19% to 24%,
- you have to comply with Schengen visa rules, i.e. you can visit Spain (or anywhere else in the EU) for a maximum of 90 days in a rolling 180 days.
If you'd like to share more details of your circumstances, we may be able to give more specific responses.
Kind regards,
Kim

Yes we ( my wife and I) own a property and a car registered in Spain with Spanish number plates etc. We also have spanish car insurance with a Spanish based broker. We pay six monthly a community fee as well as water and electricity by DD from our Spanish bank account

OK, so if you want to travel on holiday all you need is your UK passport as before.
It might be worth travelling with a copy of your house deeds to show evidence of where you are holidaying.
(And any Covid test documentation required at the time of travel)
Currently, during the pandemic restrictions, Spain is only admitting Residents and Spanish nationals.
If considering a permanent move to Spain search the forum tips and guides for comprehensive details on how to apply for that.

Just one point that may change things for you, I have a number of friends from Northern Ireland who also have a Southern Irish passport, my understanding is this is quite common as it is the Ireland of Ireland.
This may with the relevant enquiries entitle you to Southern Ireland / EU rules and regs.
