As the holders of A NLV when we arrive in Spain for next visit, will we have to complete the application on line before we travel and conform with the new entry conditions upon arrival at the airport.

We had to supply our fingerprints and photos to the Spainish authorities to obtain our visas.

Thanks

Chris Egl

Firstly you need to arrange to get your TIE  card as per the  stipulations of your NLV. The TIE card will hold the biometric details required by EES. You’ll need a photo and fingerprints  again to get the card. At the moment you produce your TIE card alongside your passport to prevent it being stamped, ( or not depending on the whims of border control)  whereas once EES starts all information regarding length of stay will be held digitally.

Presumably you are aware of the length of time you can spend you can spend outside of Spain during your first 5 years of residency as this will show up once EES is operational.

It has recently been announced that EES has been pushed back to October 2025, with ETIAS pushed to the last quarter of 2026, but as TIE holders neither should apply to you.

Thank you for posting your reply.

We both have already obtained our TIE cards. They have not been looked at when going to the boarder control and our passports have been stamped in the normal way, they don’t seem to take any notice of our passport visas.

We were hoping that it would be a smooth quick visit to the boarder control but we wait to see.

For the first 5 years of holding an NLV, you are classed as a temporary resident with limits on your time away from Spain Therefore passports will be stamped during the first 5 years (or should be) until you have changed to a permanent resident status when they won't be stamped.

When the ETIAS comes in, those holding TIE resident cards will not require them and, with the EES, they will be recorded automatically.

After the 5 years the restrictions on leaving Spain are eased.

The visa in your passport is only valid for 3 months so it's pointless them checking that as the TIE will have replaced it.

The "new" entry conditions on proving income, place to stay etc will not apply to anyone with a TIE and they aren't really new. The rules have been in for some time, as they are for non Brits going to UK. But nobody ever gets stopped to show anything like this unless there is a special reason for stopping you. We have had loads of visitors since these rules came in and nobody has ever been stopped and they haven't seen anyone on their plane stopped either.

Sorry, I don't understand, you talk about your next visit to Spain but Spain is now your primary residence so you will "visit" the UK, not Spain.
How long have you had your TIEs?

If you have an NLV then you are living in Spain and visiting the UK surely?
