Hi. Sorry if this has already been asked but I have read Valencia is introducing a tourist tax. My question is will you still have to pay this tax if you own property in Spain? If so how will they implement it.

Thanks

Paul

This tax will be charged from December this year at 0,50 to 2,- per person per day. Councils may apply a surcharge.

And how/where does a UK person with a holiday home they visit within the 90/180 rule, pay this amount ?

Steve.

That's exactly what I meant.

It's very unclear at the moment that's why I've asked the question hoping someone can officially verify it.

Also as we also pay non resident's tax will this cover us?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul

From what I’m led to believe, this tax will be aimed at visitors/tourists who are holiday making in the area, and the tax will be collexcted by adding an additional charge to hotel bookings, as well as air b n b and other holiday let’s, It will then be down to the owners to pay thiz tax onto the authorities, it’s a bit like they do in the US and other European countries. I’d be surprised if 2nd home owners will have to oay this, but I’m sure, if incorrect, some other forum members will quickly correct me!

Would friends and family members who visit me have to pay this tax?

Who knows but if you own a home as a non resident, you are paying tax anyway.

If you are resident, they could start collecting the tax as the carts d’invitacion.

From what the mayor of Benidorm says it’s down to each municipality as they have no intention of collecting taxes.

We’ve previously paid this tax in the Balearics, it was collected by the hotel and had to be paid on check in.
This is how it works there.

As far as I understand  the plan is one does not have to pay this extra tax if one owns a property with no tourist licence. That is if the holiday home is for your own (family) use only.

Hi

I presume everyone staying at a hotel will have to pay the tourist tax. I note Manchester is/has started a tourist tax scheme and I believe £1 is added (per night) to a hotel bill. I have no doubt I would have to pay this tax if I visit Manchester and I live in Greater Manchester. I expect the same will be the case in Valencia i.e. all hotels will charge every guest (tourist) the tax, irrespective of where that guest actually lives. I presume an official website has the details of this tax
