I hate to mention the B word but we are buying in Spain this spring; do you think it will be harder to get the residency visa once Brexit goes through or will we still be welcomed into the country
It might be, but then again it might not, is the best I can do. Your money will always be welcome in Spain which is why I believe it is in Spain´s interests to keep, more or less, to how it is now. Brits are 3rd in the table for immigrants to Spain after Moroccans and Romanians and contribute a great deal to the economy. The Spanish government appear to be trying to keep the status quo so the only obstacle I can see is for Brits to maybe have to prove a higher income than they do now. If you can prove you have the means to not become a burden on the Spanish state, why would they not want you to come and spend your money here?
Only my opinion, but if everything turns out worst case scenario, the housing market here will collapse as Brits own 1/5th of foreign owned properties in Spain, that´s one hell of a lot of property purchase tax to lose in the future.

If you're talking post-Brexit, it all depends on what, if any, agreements are reached re UK citizens. If there isn't any agreement, then the following will probably apply:

Yes, agree, I was only talking about those who live here legally, work legally, and those who have their rental properties licensed and pay tax but the OP was looking to do everything correctly, so I based my reply on their situation.
It is plain from the log jam for Residency applications and Tourist Licences how many have flouted the rules in the past and, as a legal resident myself, I welcome the changes, even though I think the Tourist Licence requirements are too restrictive.
I also cringe at some of the posts on here looking for work without confirming their Autonomo status or after "tradesmen" on the cheap or advertising holiday lets without the licence number. Sites like these can and will be used by the authorities to hunt down tax evaders, be it renting illegally, working illegally or hiring illegal workers.
If this all has the result of flushing out the illegals and everybody left, or to come, paying what is due, it can only be good for Spain.

Thankfully we are both retirees and will not be seeking work of any kind; we do however want to be "legal" and will take all the steps available to us to ensure we are
In hindsight we shiuld have done this years ago but "work" got in the way!

Not all urbanisations are full of brits, and not all typical Spanish pueblos are full of Spaniards not going to mention where but we visited friends in one such pueblo and believe me it was like any other Brit town, never heard a word of Spanish.
We live on a urbanisation and all of my full time neighbours are spanish non of which speak English so win win
