Hi

I'm looking to move permanently to Spain within the next year .I'm looking for a propery that offers best value for money .I love walking so local beaches promenades or hikes are important.i like good views of mountains and sea.the area would need to have a good selection of supermarkets and cafes or bars and restaurants. I must prefer traditional spanish towns to the tourist trap bust commercial towns.i watch a place in the sun regularly and have some ideas .I like townhouses or small villa or bungalow, must have roof terrace, plenty of private outside space, modern inside ,one bedroom ,one bathroom would be sufficient, must have lots of natural light ,must becwithin walking (20-30 minute walk would do) distance of supermarket, beach and bars and restaurants. I dont like holiday apartments or anything that looks like a holiday home,I must prefer a home as it will be my permanent home.budget is around €120,000-€140,000 max. I'd love to hear peoples views who have made the move as to where they recommend ,I'm very open to ideas .thank you

Suggest that you start research online on KYERO, the major property portal for Spain. It can be parsed down with relative ease to your specifications. One thing of which to be aware is that purchasing a property here incurs charges of approx 13% of the actual purchase price, over and above this cost. So that would be roughly 15K on a purchase of 120K; it comprises govt taxes, land registry as well as your legal fees.

It will be less costly inland in small villages, but the facilities will be less. There will be a trade off between areas with easily accessible services etc, but usually geared towards expat populations,  and more Spanish and less ‘touristy’ areas.

Also be aware that A Place in the Sun is a reality tv show and isn’t necessarily that representative of ‘reality’ as it is lived!

Do as much research online as you can, and when travel is enabled, come and spend some time looking around your areas of interest.

We bought in the La Mata side of Torrevieja ie. the north. Torrevieja is a peninsula jutting into the Mediterranean. The south side has been built on and continues to be built for thousands of holiday home owners mostly British. During the height of the summer the traffic jams going to and returning from Torrevieja are horrendous.you don’t need to leave the area as there are lots of shops, pubs, restaurants there. We fell in love with the other side as it is more authentic. Natural, long Sandy beaches and you can walk into Torrevieja or La Mata along the coast or on the main road. You can walk to the beach, along the rocky coastline ,go along the beautiful boardwalk across the natural sand dunes or walk the other direction to Los  Locas  or Playa del Cura.  Great bus service into Torrevieja. Huge Friday market within walking distance. A mix of nationalities. Very different from the other side.  No flooding either....be warned.

It’s never “dead” in the winter as Spanish people live there and the Scandinavians all spend their winter there too. We have an excellent private hospital within walking distance , good health centres and excellent restaurants , vets, opticians, dentist, bank and all the usual services. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
