I am going to replace my hob and oven for something more modern.

I am relatively savvy and will do it myself. Question for anyone who has done this themselves was it straightforward.

If you are a handyman will be easy. The hole for the oven is standard but some hobs need little bigger space, check it first.

Depending on availability of adequate tools, it can be easy or not. Most important: will the new hob fit into the existing worktop? Mounting formats are not necessarily standardized. Spanish hobs come without plug. Use that of your existing hob (the yellow wire is always "ground"). I'd say: face the challenge and solve problems as they show up. There is a solution for everything, and you can learn a lot.

That's what I wasn't sure of whether it was just plug and play. Or an oddball connection when I strip everything out.

Done lots of changing sockets and light fittings at the house so relatively confident with the wiring.

As the worktop is granite I'm gonna have to get a like for like size hob.  Got quite an old fashioned  electric hob, want to move to an induction hob.

That's one of my big concerns. I'm only at 3.5, as we avoid the house during the colder mths is usually adequate.

It does occasionally trip when we are there,  mainly because we are pulling too much juice through.

Not worth upgrading the tariff so will have a look at Leroy Merlin and if need be get something less juicier.

Hi 271935.

As previously mentioned it's best to free your existing hob from the Worktop surface to allow for measuring of  the size of the cut out, prior to purchasing its replacement. The Oven usually fits inside a standard 600mm housing.

Out of the two appliances you intend to replace the one with the heaviest load draw on your electricity reply is likely to be the hob rather than the oven, providing the heater rings are more than two in total.

The wiring colours are likely to be . LIVE ... Brown or Black.   . Neutral.....Blue .  And Earth..... Green, or Green/Yellow.

Ensure the Supply coming from your household Electrics has its Earth continuity verified as it's this connection which protects from Electric Shock or Fire if future problems develop.

Or just buy from a Euronics shop and they will deliver install and take away old appliances. Slightly more expensive than Carefour but customer service is much better if there is a problem

I agree with everything the other posters have said.

I've never seen a spur outlet unit in Spain - they just use an ordinary socket. I suggest that if you have to use a new plug, get a good one rather than one from a Chinese shop - you don't want it overheating and melting due to the high current passing through it.

As I'm sure you're aware, aluminium and copper pans won't work on an induction hob. Some, and possibly most, stainless steel pans won't work, unless they've got a suitable base built into them. We've got some Le Creuset iron pans that would work very well, but Margaret says  the larger ones are too heavy for an old bird to use.

Suspect this is because the heat is too high; induction hobs are incredibly efficient and heat up almost instantaneously — I have even managed to ‘catch’ something on the base of a Le Creuset by turning away from it for a minute ! They work at much lower temperatures due to the efficient heat transference.

Having said which, I’ve used my cheapo Ikea stainless pans quite successfully - although they don’t work as well as my one hideously expensive Italian Le Pentole pan which appears to have a base around a foot thick!!!!!

Tried Euronics. One 2 mins from us in El Galan. Price is in the ballpark I had in mind including fitting. So going with them Cheers
