Hi.. looking for recommendations about solicitors and buying agents and banking facilities in the Alicante area . We are looking to buy on an urbanisation in the region for budget of £80k.. Doing lots of research and just looking for friendly helpful advice .

80k plus fees should get you a nice apartment.

Watch the falling pound. By the time you settle on a price to paying for the property it could cost you an extra £5000. No deal Brexit will almost certainly  result in parity with the £ and €.

Don't give the agent a penny in terms of deposit 

Get your own solicitor not one recommended by an agent.

Your solicitor will sort your bank. They will set everything up including opening it for you

I thought that too. These forums are priceless. I got all the advice and also a solicitor recommendation which made it so much easier.

One other point always find out the community fees on the property. These can range from zero to upto 900e which can be quite a chunk to factor into your running costs.

My house all in costs me about 1700e per year to run. I have a communal pool and no mortgage.

El Galan in Villamartin. Holiday home. Visit 6-8 times per year spend about 2 mths a yr there.

Bought it 2015/2016.

That sounds exactly like what we want to do with ours . That area does look really nice . Thanks for all the answers . Much appreciated.. I think it’s just a fear of the unknown if you know what I mean . It is a big step finding out all the steps involved .

We complete our purchase in Playa Flamenca this Tuesday and agree with the comments so far.

We found a lawyer using the list of spanish lawyers who have registered as speaking english on the you.gov website. No guarantees but thought it was a good place to start. We met with 3 lawyers and chose 1.

Get you NIE numbers as soon as possible including anyone who you wish to be named on a spanish will. Morbid thought but the spanish legal probate system is very complicated and expensive for your next of kin if you don't have a will. We went to the Spanish consulate in Edinburgh - they arrived in about 3 weeks - easy process and means the lawyer doesn't charge you €150 for doing it.

We used Currency Direct for our money transfer which went smoothly. I agree the gbp/eur is in free fall and may get worse (or it may get better !!)

Don't use a lawyer recommended by the selling agent.

Use one or a maximum of 2 agents to view all the properties your interested in.

We very impressed with INMO investments as an agent. Very proffesional.

We bought our apartment 3 years ago on villamartin plaza through vista casa who are on the plaza. Adam and mark were brill with everything. Look out for hidden charges, like suma and non residency tax. Community fees can also be quite high. Hi fx are very good for money transfers. We are moving out 16th september for 6 months initially to see if we settle and get jobs.
