Hi I'm just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of typical costs to buy and run a car ? Just a runaround to get from A to B. Buying a place in Villamartin and expect to be over there 6-7 times a year. Do ppl leave cars at the airport in long term parking ? Don't have garage or car space with house in Villamartin so on street parking. Should in hire a garage to park it up when the m not there? Is insurance and tax expensive ? Do you recomment private sale or dealer ? TIA

Off the top of my head:
Running and servicing costs similar to the UK.
There's plenty of information already on the forum about long-term airport parking.
Garage spaces can be difficult to find and may be expensive, depending on the demand in your area.
Insurance is a bit more expensive than the UK - probably because there are more accidents here and therefore more claims on the insurance companies. I've just received the renewal notice for my wife's Fiesta, and that's €323.
Tax is set by your municipality. We come under Orihuela and pay €50 for each car.
I strongly recommend buying from a dealer who will carry out the transfer to your name.
You'll need a certificate of non-residency to be legal.

Agree with the information Jim has given, at Alicante airport parking has several companies offering annual or short term prices, weparkgroup.com seems to be a good deal at €199 for an annual contract although I haven't used them myself.

Thanks John
So we have just bought a villa last October in a Relleu, as we have kids we had to hire cars during peak time even getting the best deals and NHS discounts it was costing a small fortune.
We decided to buy a small car, at home we have a 5 series hybrid and a 7 series bmw but we are pragmatic other drivers seem to use bumpers as parking aids so we didn’t want to get anything too expensive out here.
Buying a car, second hand car prices are crazy here, €3000 for a Citroen c2 for example you wouldn’t pay £750 at home.
I found better deals to be had away from the coast and the expat areas. However in the end I bought a car from an expat who wanted the cash quickly I got a 2015 Dacia Sandero with 30,000 for about €4600 my solicitor who is great sorted out all the legal for us.
I used linea direct (sister company to direct line) and although the cars at home are only £300 a year for our Dacia Sandero we paid €400 for a year based on it being in an airport car park most of the time. We do live in a gated urbanisation when we are out here and have our own drive. Any driver over 25 (standard with breakdown cover too)
We have just sorted airport parking, there appears to be two main issues firstly shuttle bus or meet and greet. As we have kids we wanted meet and greet so we drive to the airport and they take the car, when we clear passport control we call them and the cars there.
The two main companies are Seguro and Planeparking. We went for the latter as most of the staff are English and they have good reviews, unlimited drop off and collections, they always wash the car and no shuttle bus messing about its meet and greet too. But is €300 a year.
I would recommend looking at a Dacia dealership or for a second hand one as they are cheap and drive pretty well they are basically renaults I would rather have my 2014 Dacia than some old shed with more miles than the nasa space shuttle
Good luck

We bought a brilliant 19yr old seat for 1500€, faded paint but solid and never misses a beat. We visit several times a year, we Leave it on the street (disconnect the battery). We have friends who collect us and drop us off at the airport, if we’re going to be a few months absent they drive it around the block for us (our insurance was 250€ and covers the car not the person).

Only two that I know of, RACE and RACC:
However, I don't know anybody who's joined either of them, so have no idea what their response times are.
Cheers Jim Will ask on the forum
Ray.

Hi Been browsing through Forum regarding A Certificate of non Residency have spoke to several non residents all have cars no one has heard of this some say you must be referring to NIE number if not why would they let you insure your car without this certificate.knowing your vehicle is illegal so not insured.
