ih me and my partner are driving over to  villamartin  Spain at the end of match .we have booked the ferry from Portsmouth to santander   the boat arrives at 2.15 pm on a Sunday. we are thinking of stopping of somewhere along the route for an overnight stay at a  bed and breakfast or similar.

we would be very grateful for any advise of anyone who has driven this route or had an overnight as it will be the first time we have driven over to spain

thank you TONY SUSAN

Hi Tony

I am also driving that route this month but I have never driven it before but I have booked a hotel in Valladolid which is roughly three hours from Santander . I was looking really to stay in Burgos but couldn’t find a hotel to suit as we are travelling with a pet. I have only driven from Villamartin to Madrid once before but seen lots of what I would call motels by the roadside . I booked my hotel via the Accor website it has many different hotels for various prices . Hope this helps

Hi Tony and Susan

We have driven 3 times and would suggest you don't try to get hotel in Madrid their prices start from €400 a night so do your research.

Two years ago we came to Murcia area from Bilbao on the ferry,as we had slept all night, and we both drive we did the route in one go,just pit stopping, the route through was brilliant, roads  fantastic and it only cost us about 23euros in tolls. We got to our house about 11.30 at night, and will be travelling back to uk in July for a holiday, and are doing the same again, you can do it without an overnight stop if you have to drivers, and we are both of a senior age. Hope this helps.

It's only about 8 hours from Santander to your base,as I'm sure you would be well rested on the boat journey, you should have no problem with a straight through drive. Why bother getting a bnb?You could go to the carrefour 24 hour supermarket at Playa Flamenca and get any essentials necessary.Hope this helps.

I can't remember the exact route, but if you put the address into your sat nav,of where you are going it will give you the route,we did not enter Madrid, but bypassed it,you can still see the planes flying in and out, the route for us was beautiful, some of it reminds you of houses they would perhaps have in Austria. We did it in one go,with two drivers  was easy, just stopped for the necessaries.hope you get on okay.
