Can anyone recommend someone who could upgrade the electric to my house in Los Dolses. Currently if I have washing machine and oven on at the same time it trips the electric so we are assuming there's not enough power. We have had new sockets added in every room recently so now need the electric supply upped. Tia.

If you upgrade you will pay a higher standing charge and higher rate per KW. It would be cheaper to buy a smoke alarm, some timers and  put your washing machine on overnight or depending on your tariff at a cheaper time and when you are not cooking. It doesn't take long to realise which combinations trip the electrics and adjust to it and to your tariff.

All you need is a qualified electrician to check your wiring is able to take the higher power rating. Iberdrola has a list of those qualified to do so and then issue a boletin (certificate) and  Iberdrola will automatically raise the amount of power you are contracted for.

Lots of older properties were put on 3.3Kw of power  but that is not really sufficient with all the modern gadgets. 5.75Kw is the recommended one now unless you have lots of high powered equipment.

Yes, it will cost a bit more but the convenience of having the power on without thinking about will the kettle trip it out or can I use the hairdryer and so on is, IMHO, well worth it. The difference between 3.3 and 5.75 is about 6 euro a month.

So get an electrician to issue the certificate then get on to your electricity supplier to up the power.

Hi  Sheila

I  recently  got  my  Electrical  power  up graded,

You  will  need  a Cert  from  a  qualified  registered  Electrician, He  will  come  out  remove  a  fuse  and  replace  it with  a Stronger  fuse, He  will  then  head  away and  write  out  a Cert  and  send it  off  to  get  it approved,  He will  then email  you  the  cert to you,  You  bring  it to  your  electricity  supplier  and  they  will  upgrade  your  power that  process  take  3  days, But  depends  on your  supplier

Electrician  cost  180

Supplier   charges  80

My  monthly   bill  increases  by  10 a  month  approx  as  you  are using  stronger  power

Name  and contact  details  of Electrician  I  will  pm  to  you

I agree with Marcliff that it’s better to upgrade for peace of mind but you may not need to get an electrician to check or do anything. When we bought our house I went to the Iberdrola desk in Carrefour and they upgraded it. It cost 77€ if I remember.  If they can check that the power was once higher than it currently is then they will just upgrade it. The previous owner of our house had reduced it while it was up for sale. It’s worth a try.

Also it is very difficult to put a value on the difference. Someone may use all their heavy electricity usage appliances at their highest rate.
In the OPs example, it may have only tripped because the oven and washing machine had just been put on therefore drawing the most electricity. It really doesn't take much to adjust

Hi

Do you know how much power your washing machine is taking? If not, buy a smart plug or two and it will tell you. They're pretty cheap https://www.amazon.es/Inteligente-Programable-Temporizador-Compatible-SmartThings/dp/B0B74PGRPP?pd_rd_w=fzGkw&content-id=amzn1.sym.c59eb323-0057-4111-855d-9bbf01ba7fc0&pf_rd_p=c59eb323-0057-4111-855d-9bbf01ba7fc0&pf_rd_r=STXNV4EEH7HV2FPKPZHC&pd_rd_wg=IZV2h&pd_rd_r=fec6322f-8d11-436b-b6f6-2f0a21efeb13&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_m_grid_dv_rp_oos_0_29_nped_i&th=1&tag=cstareg0f-21

You can use one on anything that's plugged in to the mains - so unfortunately not your oven.

Cheers

Steve

An interesting but, at least initially, confusing phenomenon worth remembering is that where an electric oven has not been used for some time, there is a tendency for it to trip the circuitry as you turn the heat down on first use.

This, I was told by my electrician, is likely due to the fact that the circuitry has detected humidity. Basically (I am supposing) any damp within has now gone abit steamy since you applied heat.

On being told this, I reset the master switch and left the oven on a suitably low temp (100c odd) for 30 minutes.

Thereafter, all was good.

If I have got my facts wrong here, I would be grateful for any feedback and I will amend or delete accordingly. I have written this to assist, not fo further confuse.

I am no electrician.. and am also a very stupid person!

I will say though, that my simple fix has worked beautifully for me on several subsequent visits after months away.

In summary:

1. on arrival, stick the thing on low

2. leave it 30 mins, supervised, to dry out and without placing any further demands on it.

Hope helps the non-residents out there.

It's a 'phenomenon' I never would gave guessed all by myself !

No, you are not wrong. That is a fix and a warning on many sites. If the oven is left out of use for some time, then turn it on low (your 100C is probably right) to get rid of the damp which accumulates. Of course, this wouldn't happen after a week or even a month but some places are left empty for over 6 months at a time so good to iterate the problem and the solution.
