My partner passed away May. With in hours of his death these well known funaral planers were knocking on my door. I was in bed ill with grief. Next morning 10,30am I had a phone call off them demanding to give them my bank details as there was an outstanding bill 2,302,26 euros we had already been paying 40 euro a month for three years. There was no serameny no service all they had to do was bring the ashes back to the house. I have had no receipt no thank you nothing. I have complained to them (nothing) does anyone know where where I go  from here as I feel I have been overcharged? Thank you

My condolences for you loss, you state you had a funeral plan, what type of plan/policy did you have, also 40 euro a month over 3 years sounds reasonably good paying into the pot 1440 euro if my math is correct, did the policy state how long you would be paying 40 euro a month to cover the cost for a funeral, what did you sign up for?  with the demand for 2302.26 euro would make a total outlay of 3742.26 euro which may seem to be average in what I have read as my neighbour who husband died in April 2020 paid around 4000 euro for the same service you had. perhaps others on here can supply more information. You state a well known funeral Planners/directors, can you supply more details? Again I am sorry for your loss and the way you think you were treated, I am also surprised that the funeral company who had you bank details did not automatically take the outstanding balance directly from your bank, unless it was frozen by the bank due to the death of your partner. Lets hope we can get some more information on funeral directors from others, because one day it is going to affect everyone.

My basic plan with Avalon is as follows :-

Deposit £80.00

Monthly payment is £44.87

10 year instalment term

Total £5,464.00

I can reduce the total by settling early. They spell out the costs and options clearly and openly. I know that if I die before the term ends, my executor will be responsible for paying any outstanding amount

Your plan sounds reasonable although they could have been more understanding in the circumstances.
