Most of the outbreaks are from family parties, funerals, nightclubs and seasonal fruit pickers who seem to have arrived with Covid, along with those arriving in small boats from Africa. It doesn't help when large populations such as in Barcelona, when asked to stay at home instead decide to head to the Costa Brava to "beat" any future lockdown, much as those from Madrid did in the first lockdown. I read somewhere that although parts of Barcelona were in voluntary lockdown, the same number of cars left the city as in the same weekend in 2019.
With this type of behaviour, I fear it will not be long before the Costa Blanca, along with other coastal regions start to see a rise in new infections, however hard most of us try to follow the rules.
Once August arrives we will see the Spanish arriving in large numbers with families meeting up celebrating the holidays and because so many who test positive are asymptomatic I fear this leads to a false sense of security.
In Totana the outbreak from a nightclub is a prime example of younger people feeling immune and I can only hope that the coming days don't show how quickly it can spread to more vulnerable members of their families.
It is good to see how some airlines and travel companies such as TUI have immediately stated that holidays will be cancelled meaning that people will be able to get refunds.
Unfortunately I feel this is all far from over.
