Hi everyone.

We purchased our house last year and for convenience, arranged house insurance through our bank.

Our insurance is now due for renewal. Can anyone advise if it is best to go through the bank, or if there is a better alternative? Not sure how to shop around in Spain for house insurance!

Also, wondering how best to estimate the value to insure? With the property prices relatively low at present, I'm sure the demolition and rebuild costs are more than the market value. Is there a cost per square meter value that can be applied for insurance purposes?

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks

Mar

Try IBEX insurance pretty good but I also discovered if you insure through the bank La Caix they will not charge any bank fees for a year worth a try but get in writing first Linear directa are also ok .

Wow, thanks for that, John. I am surprised the bank told me that there was nothing I could do!

Hi Sheila64,

Maybe the reason the bank did not tell you could be they do not want to lose your business as they make plenty of profit on the sale of insurance.

Just a suggestion if I may although I am sure many of you do know, but for those who do not know but this maybe of interest to you.

I obtained my car insurance via The CSMA - now called Boundless by CSMA (you do need to be a member which costs of £26 per year) and insured with LV via CSMA, I looked around for car insurance the best I found at the time was £462 this included my Wife who is a Learner Driver, I contacted CSMA who offered the same cover + and now I am insured for £198 full com with CSMA, which also includes my wife, No Claims Protected for up to 3 accidents per year and replacement car if necessary, I am not saying they are always chaaper but you do not know until you have tried.

To be able to join CSMA you need to employed or ex employed of the UK Gov as Civil Servant, A former Civil Servant, NHS, Local Government, Police employees, Armed Forces, Firefighters, Teacher, Postal Workers including The Post Office,  The surviving spouse or Partner of a deceased Member, A person of an employee or director of an Approved Organisation, Any person who is a Close Relation of a Voting Member. Any person who is not otherwise eligible for membership whom the Board, the Club Council or an established CSMA national or local committee consider would be an asset to the Association, A person who is or has previously been an Honorary Member, A friend (hopefully you will call me a friend!) of a Member who has proposed for membership by that Member by quoting the proposer's membership number 10891350 (this is my membership number)

If you are interested in joining Boundless (New name for CSMA), if you could see your way to mention my membership number which is: 10891350, the reason for asking this is because every one that joins who has recommended the person to member and join then I get a amazon voucher.

Please no nasty remarks if this message is not for you for any reason that is fine. I have been open with you concerning the reason for quoting my membership number, all I am offering a suggestion that may or may not be of help you, in a polite and hopefully seen in friendly way. Hi Marmike,

A correct and reliable way to assess the rebuilding value of the property would be based on the built m2 and m2 of tiled terraces (e.g. terraces, balconies, solarium) together with e.g. private pool or fences if existing (exact m2 details can be taken from the deed).  It is not necessary on ...

...the other side to insure the plot or market value.

With these values, the insurance companies can calculate and suggest an up-to-date rebuilding value.

We are Agents for Liberty Seguros, if you wish we can assist you and provide you with a no-obligation quote.

Kind regards, Alfonso - Gran Alacant Insurances

Good morning can you please inbox me how to get in touch with you via email. We are still living in the UK and have just bought a property in villamartin that we will need insurance for.
