Like you we insured with our bank when we bought our property as we didn't know better. On renewal we got even better cover for less money with  Liberty Seguros, would recommend them.

Have you tried to put a claim in with Liberty Seguras, it us like pushing water up hill with your bear hands. We have been jumping through hoops for nearly 12 months now, providing everything they request and they still come up with more.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

We have two vehicles plus house insurance with LS. Nearly 12 months ago we had a burst water main, unfortunately our side if the meter. The first we knew was water bills if 1k euro. Got person to come, find leak and repair, received invoice and paid it. Gave invoice to broker who put in the claim, returned not enough information on invoice, got in touch with plumber and asked him to detail every action taken and part needed. We had taken water bills covering relevant period, LS wanted bills of current year plus bills from previous year to compare. Then we had to get back in touch with plumber as not enough info provided regarding the repair, itemise parts etc and provide receipts,, these have been provided. That us as it stands at this point in time, awaiting to hear what else might be wanted. The plumber has asked us to keep him informed as he has had others with unsuccessful insurance claims.

Hi everyone.

We purchased our house last year and for convenience, arranged house insurance through our bank.

Our insurance is now due for renewal. Can anyone advise if it is best to go through the bank, or if there is a better alternative? Not sure how to shop around in Spain for house insurance!

Also, wondering how best to estimate the value to insure? With the property prices relatively low at present, I'm sure the demolition and rebuild costs are more than the market value. Is there a cost per square meter value that can be applied for insurance purposes?

Any advice would be very welcome.

Thanks

Mar

DO NOT use the bank, is my advice!! Generally speaking they are only insuring 'their' interest in the property so it tends only to cover fire damage, not theft etc etc. Ring Geli, in San Miguel, on 635 999 290 (mornings only). We have been with her since we actually moved here (rather than holiday home), and realised the banks attitudes.
