Ask him for the factura (receipt). Personally, I would never use "someone down the road" as there are plenty of legal and insured key holding businesses.

He runs it as a legit business and several people use him in the community.   I will ask him for the receipt when I go back.  😀

Do I read it correct that your app shows no break in continuity of Electricity consumption during the whole of the time you were away ?

In addition, was it definitely an RCD that tripped as opposed to an M.C.B.which only protects a single circuit, I.e. only part of your electrics . Do  you know if your consumer unit ( fusebox) has more than one RCD installed ,as some do have.

Yes you are correct on the app it shows that we were using electricity every day all day. We have a fridge freezer and internet connected only so if it had tripped the sockets nothing else is connected.  It didn’t even show no electricity when he said the guy was in changing the rcd.  It now is showing nothing being used as I told him to switch everything off.  I have attached a photo of why he said was replaced.   Can you tell me how much it would normally cost too as I want to know if we have been taken for a fool.

The photo you provide is indeed an RCD. It's not clear from it what Manufacturer it is .The basic type can be obtained from about 15 to 20 euros.

These devices can malfunction,but  are fairly reliable and the only way to prove if it was still functional was to have tested it whilst still connected to your fusebox. 

The device shown is rated at 25 amp capacity. Some fuseboxes have two of these. If you only have one of these devices presently within your fusebox you can press the test switch and this will test trip it.This will simulate the condition which would have occurred if the old one had tripped whilst you were away. If everything in the property is without power when you test trip it then no power useage would show on your app during the time you have been told it had tripped .

Are you sure there is not more than one of these RCDs inside your fusebox.

Yes I think we have two thats the old  one that was replaced.  I have attached a photo of our fuse box.   

We paid 82 Euros   

Our key holder told us we had no electricity at all it had all fused and all my food had defrosted in the freezer.   So I presumed that it would show as no electricity being used on the app .  We had no break in electricity on the app so that is what  has made us suspicious . He has been told to never instruct workmen unless we have authorised even though that’s what was in our contract anyway

The photo only shows one RCD. It is the one one far right next to the orange main switch. The other devices are all MCBs protecting individual circuits.

If that RCD had tripped then ,as you say ,no power would be available at any of the household electrics . If you are sure power was never disrupted then I cannot see how the RCD you show in the first photo can be one from your fusebox.

If you are paying someone to keyhold they must be either registered as self-employed or as a business.  If you are paying someone to keyhold who is not working legally then you can be fined as well as them!  Also the electrician would need to be registered and suitably qualified so should provide a receipt which includes the CIF number.  I would ask for a copy of the receipt.  Then double-check your keyholder is doing the job legally!
