Good day good people. Shirley and I are retired. We are retired and want to move back to Spain. We have NIE numbers and sufficient savings and Pensions.

Has anyone recently got a Non Lucrative Visa on the forum that could advise us? Preferably someone from the UK. Also, who does a reasonably inexpensive health insurance that is a requirement for the Visa?

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps begin by reading the guide on link below and the 39 pages of replies.

Hello Buzby,

When taking out Healht Insurance for your residency, you need a fully comprehensive cover without co-payments, as this is a requirement from the Spanish consulate. Also, the insurance is a 1 year contract, since you have a NIE number all you will need is a Spanish bank account so you can pay monthly instead of the year upfront.

I suggest that you have a look at the companies Medical Network, as some are limited, in addition, if you are thinking of keeping the insurance for more than 1 year, I would recommend you have a look at insurance companies that have a LIFETIME coverage (this means that they can't kick you out in case of high medical expenses, age or serious illness (once accepted)), as far as I know only 2 companies have this in Spain: DKV and AXA.

Regarding the NLV, I suggest that you get a professional to help you, as the criteria changes frequently, the same goes for your insurance.

Feel free to contact me if you would like further advice, I will be happy to help. I work in an insurance agency through AXA.

I hope this helps!

Hi,

If you are retired and receiving UK government pension you can apply for the S1 healthcare scheme (which is paid for by the UK government) and use the S1 healthcare to apply for your non lucrative visa instead of paying for private healthcare. When you submit the S1 Paperwork to the INSS office in Spain you will receive full state healthcare as would a Spanish Citizen.

I've always understood that Private healthcare that is being used to apply for a visa has to be paid up for a full year.

Hi Buzby,

As Steve has advised, UK citizens drawing State pension do not need private health insurance for the NLV application - the rules changed in January 2022 and it is now possible to use Form S1 to access Spanish State healthcare.  To obtain more information about the S1, you can contact the NHS Business Services Authority overseas healthcare team at: [email protected], or call them on 0191 218 1999 - lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

Ask NHSBSA to send your S1s to your UK address, as you will need to register them online before attending your NLV interview at the Spanish Consulate in the UK - use the following link to register your S1:

"6. Health insurance.....  A receipt of registration of S1 form on the web of Social Security is also accepted as medical insurance for non-lucrative visa.  To register S1 form please access the following link (Internet Explorer does not support this web, please use alternative browsers):

https://tramites.seg-social.es/acceso/registro-s-1-cobertura-asistencia-sanitaria-espa%C3%B1a.html "

Once you've registered your S1 online, you take the original and a copy of the email confirming your S1 registration to your NLV meeting at the Spanish Consulate - make sure you get your S1 back, so that you can complete the registration once you get to Spain.

Kind regards,

Kim
