Good Morning all,

I am moving out to Villamartin permanently next year with my partner and i am intending to apply for residency.

I am aware of the criteria required and i am confident i can meet it all - Will my partner have to become a resident   too. House is in my name only.

Just a general question. Have most people who reside in Spain applied and been granted residency - do you need it to live in Spain permantly

What are the advantages, and what are the potential problems if residency isn't gained

I am sure this will have been discussed before

Regards

Shane

Just to add to what Nicola has said, if you live here then it's a legal requirement to obtain residencia.

Perhaps I'm fortunate with the friends I've got, but they all have residencia.

You could in theory be prosecuted for not getting residencia, but more likely the tax office would come down on you like a ton of bricks when they find out!

And with Brexit looming, I think it would be foolish to not have residencia.

Hi Mike,

This is what i received recently from my spanish solicitor

In order to obtain the residency ..the following things are required: (It depends also on your situation, if you are working, or oficially retired.. etc. )

  • Proof of income last 6 months ( the bank statement should be stamped..all the documentation official, originals )  (the bank statement from Spanish bank account + can be also attached bank statements from UK,,) (it is very important to proof you have enough money to live here..)
  • Certificate about the monthly revenue ( your pension, or private pension  or ..salary…etc..
  • Application E121, S1 or E 106  or private health insurance
  • Certificate of registration from the town hall “volante de empadronamiento”(padrón)
  • 1 photo
  • Passport + NIE

At least in this moment these are the conditions required..

Hope this is helpful

Shane
